NLM classification
Yesterday, on Sunday, 11 on Jestha 2082, we had the opportunity to learn about the National Library of Medicine (NLM) from our respected Gita Thapa madam at Central Department of Library Science. She told us about the NLM classification. NLM came from Library of Congress. It is one part of Library of congress. She told us that, LC is used in Army Medical Library, but they got problem in classification of medical books. So, they developed NLM in 1944. NLM is one of the classification schemes to classify the medical books. Most of the medical library are using NLM classification scheme. It is very easy to use. In NLM there are two parts that is QS to QZ is pre-clinical sciences and W to WZ is clinical sciences. It consists of index and list of medical subject headings. It is denoted by Alphabet and numerical. for eg. WO 17 is surgical atlas NLM is available in both printed form and electronic form. The system covers all medical disciplines including Dentistry, Nursing, P...
